The recruitment period for this position has been extended. Previous applicants will be considered and need not reapply. Juneau Pools is seeking a lifeguard to join our energetic Dimond Park Aquatic Center team!
As a lifeguard at Dimond Park Aquatic Center, under general supervision, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and enjoyable experience for guests using the facility by monitoring swimmers, enforcing rules, responding to emergencies, providing care in an emergency, and maintaining the cleanliness of the facility.
We are looking for professional, vigilant and attention orientated individuals who enjoy working with the public and understand the importance of aquatics in our community. Applicants must also be a proficient swimmer and able to work well as part of team of varying ages and experience levels, and be able to handle high paced and occasionally stressful situations.
Our aquatic team are a dynamic group who work cohesively together and are dedicated to making aquatic opportunities available to the community. Aquatic staff enjoy flexibility in scheduling as well as a complimentary pool pass for the employee.
This position will work at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center. Our facility is open to the public seven days a week from 5:30am-8:00pm Monday - Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm on Saturday, and 12:00pm-4:00pm on Sunday. The aquatics department is currently hiring for one 32.5 hour per week lifeguard. Scheduled shifts are either 5:00am-11:30am or 11:30am-6:00pm, Monday - Friday.
The primary responsibility of this position is, with a high degree of vigilance, to monitor swimmers and respond to situations where their safety may be compromised. This includes observing guests as they swim and monitoring their proficiency, maintaining a safe environment by enforcing rules, and providing care to guests who may become injured or encounter a physical ailment. During a typical rotation you may be on the pool deck for up to an hour.
Secondary responsibilities will include basic upkeep of the facility by maintaining a clean environment, which is free of trash and clutter, and during the winter you may be asked to participate in the removal of snow from the facilities entrance. You will also be responsible monitoring the safe operation aquatic attractions the safety of swimmers in the facility abiding safe operation rules.
Education: None
Experience: Certified as American Red Cross Lifeguard or the equivalent, and First Aid and CPR certificates.
Age: At least 15 years of age at time of appointment, and eligible to receive a General Duties Work Permit from the Alaska Department of Labor & Workforce Development, if under the age of 17.
Note: Some positions may require WSI (water swimming instructor) certification or other specialized certification in diving, scuba diving or kayaking as appropriate.
