The California Health & Human Services Agency (CalHHS) is seeking to hire a Student Assistant to support the California Initiative to Advance Precision Medicine (CIAPM). Under the close supervision of the CIAPM staff, the Student Assistant will work 12-24 hours per week to further the goals established by the CalHHS Secretary that support the statutory function for, and mission of CIAPM. The program supports collaborative research and fosters partnerships between scientists, communities, industry, and others to improve health outcomes and reduce disparities.

Employment

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Prerequisites

Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list. To view our current affiliation list please paste the following URL into your browser:

Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.

Majors/Fields of Study

Pursuing a master's or doctoral degree in a field relevant to the following:

Precision Medicine, Bioinformatics, Bioethics, Clinical or Biomedical Sciences, Communications, Data Sciences, Engineering (all concentrations), Epidemiology, Genetics, Health Disparities, Health Policy, Psychology or Mental Health, Research Administration, or a similar field.

Work Schedule

Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.

Additional Work Schedule

Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).

Compensation

$18.00 - $26.00 per hour

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Knowledge of or experience with biomedical and/or public health research focusing on depression and adverse childhood experiences.
  • An interest in contributing to the development of representative and equitable biomedical/ clinical research.
  • Ability to learn, including, but not limited to, publication and graphics design software.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and meet deadlines.
  • A passion to be a contributor to an interdisciplinary team.
  • A driving desire to learn and improve.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and/or some master's degree classes in areas of public policy, administration, health sciences or government.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are

not limited to, the following:
  • 40% Develop communication materials and resources. Develop or facilitate the creation of written and multimedia content, including for the website and print, newsletter and email announcements, annual and evaluation reports, and social media posts. Oversee the generation, design, and dissemination of public reports, for CIAPM or in partnership with sister agencies or external partners. Ensure all public documents meet ADA standards and best practices. Work with CIAPM staff and CalHHS administrative units to collect, develop, organize, and disseminate content for CIAPM communications, including the website, social media channels, and newsletters. Become familiar and stay current on congruent precision medicine efforts within CIAPM's portfolio, across the state and country, and across academic, private, and non-profit/community sectors.
  • 30% Provide administrative support. Support CIAPM staff with administrative duties, such as compiling information for, coordinating, and supporting CIAPM convenings and Advisory Council Meetings; and organizing symposia for research grantees; developing/updating Standard Operating Procedures for core duties.
  • 30% Support project management. Support the implementation of CIAPM programs and demonstration research projects. This may include supporting the management of CIAPM's research funding opportunities, tracking and updating internal documents on research project output, and maintaining communications with the research teams.


Physical Requirements

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a remote office setting.

Students/Employees will be required to work according to the current UEI remote workplace policy and sign a UEI Work from Home Agreement. The decision to permit an employee to work from home is at the discretion of the supervisor or employer and may, at any time and with or without cause, unilaterally terminate the option to work from home.
