WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and mayneed to be available some evenings to document and support public meetings or events. Your office would be located at City Hall in downtown Juneau.
Under general direction from the Communications and Engagement Director, the Engagement Specialist serves as strategic liaison that connects residents with local government by developing and implementing outreach programs, and initiatives that foster civic participation. This role guides and executes programs to gather public input on cross-departmental activities, ensuring project stakeholders and underrepresented voices are included. The role is central to coordinating communication efforts and public process activities across departments, ensuring effective promotion of projects and initiatives, with an emphasis on capital projects and tourism management. The Engagement Specialist is a relationship-builder, and skilled communicator who works closely with CBJ departments to develop communications plans for projects, programs and events.
As a new role within CBJ, this position will help develop and manage engagement frameworks, tools and programs, and will collaborate with the Communications Specialist and Digital Content Specialist to share public engagement opportunities across various communications platforms. This role is key to fostering civic participation and enhancing the visibility and accessibility of city government through consistent, clear, engaging and inclusive communications.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in public relations, public policy or administration, project management, marketing, journalism, communications, or related field;
AND
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in digital engagement, communications, media relations, public planning, marketing, event planning, or a related field. The required experience must include some amount of project/program management experience. Experience working in or adjacent to local or state government is preferred.
OR
Substitution:
Three years of professional level experience in community engagement, grassroots outreach, public planning and/or communications or a related field may substitute for the required education and experience listed above. The required experience must include some amount of project/program management experience. Experience working in or adjacent to local or state government is preferred.
