Job Summary

The Middle School Assistant Manager II supports the efficient operation of the school cafeteria and kitchen. Under the supervision of the cafeteria manager, this role involves supervising cafeteria staff, maintaining food safety and sanitation standards, and ensuring compliance with federal and state meal program guidelines. The position also involves record-keeping related to meals and inventory management, and stepping in for the cafeteria manager when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; related work experience may substitute for education.
  • Two years of responsible experience in a large-scale food service operation, including food preparation, handling, safety, and sanitation.
  • One year of supervisory experience, including planning and directing staff work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and cashiering systems.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication).
  • Completion of the ASD Serving It Safe food safety training within 21 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience training staff in kitchen responsibilities.
  • Experience with food service POS and inventory systems.
  • Previous experience as a food service manager.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage food and supply inventories, ordering, and record keeping.
  • Ensure compliance with USDA and State meal pattern and service guidelines.
  • Monitor and record kitchen equipment temperatures and food safety practices according to HACCP standards.
  • Maintain NSLP compliance and accurate records of free and reduced meals.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and decision-making in a fast-paced environment.
  • Train and supervise cafeteria staff, substitutes, and aides.
  • Manage employee timecards and leave requests.
  • Act as cafeteria manager in their absence.
  • Establish positive relationships with students, staff, and the community.

Physical and Mental Demands

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Ability to lift items under 40 lbs. Capable of understanding instructions, recalling details, handling conflicts, and making decisions under pressure. Manage stress effectively in a diverse environment.

Work Environment

Professional setting with diverse individuals. Exposure to outdoor weather and moderate noise levels. Occasional use of video display equipment.
