Description
Juneau Pools is seeking a Recreation Worker II also known as Assistant Aquatic Instructor to join our energetic Dimond Park Aquatic Center team!
Under general supervision, this position will teach swimming lessons to students aging from six months to senior citizens.

We are looking for fun and energetic applicants with good communication and organizational skills who enjoy working with children in an aquatic setting. Applicants must be attentive and able to follow the directions of the aquatic instructor whom they are assisting.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position's scheduled shifts will be on weekday evenings during the school year and on weekday mornings, typically from 8:00am-12:00pm, during the summer and occasional Saturday mornings.

Typical Responsibilities
The main duty of this position will be assisting aquatic instructors during swim lessons by helping with class management and always keeping eyes on all students in the swim lesson. Class sessions are typically 30 - 45 minutes long and held between two and four times a week, either in the mornings or evenings, depending on the time of year.
Secondary duties will include gathering equipment from the supply closet for swim lessons, helping children connect with their responsible adult when use of the bathroom is necessary during lessons, and attending periodic training sessions to improve and learn new teaching strategies.

Minimum Qualifications
Licensure:

CPR/First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment.

Under Alaska Statute 12.62.160 (9) Appointments to this position are offered conditionally, pending the results of a criminal records report (Non-FBI). Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors. Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 3 months of hire.
