These positions are flexibly staffed. While we will hire a Firefighter EMT at the lowest level, we will prioritize those applicants with the higher levels of EMT and Firefighter certifications. If employed at a lower level, automatic promotion to the next level in the flex series will occur once a higher-level certification is acquired.
CCFR provides 24/7 emergency response for the City and Borough of Juneau. All permanent full-time positions work 24-hour shifts and live at the station during their shift. CCFR has two live-in stations, the Juneau station located in downtown Juneau, and the Glacier station located near the Juneau International Airport. In addition, we have Douglas, Auke Bay, and Lynn Canal Stations.

This recruitment will be used to create an eligible list to fill current and future vacancies which may occur within the next twelve months, subject to an interview and re-evaluation of the candidate's current job performance. At the discretion of the Fire Chief, the eligible list may be extended up to one year from the effective date. The City and Borough of Juneau may revise or change the examinations or examining procedure at any time during the period and require candidates to meet the revised examination procedures or pass the revised examinations to maintain eligibility for appointment.

Successful candidates must pass Phase 1 of the selection process by meeting the minimum qualifications outlined below, passing an oral board, passing professional reference checks, and passing a criminal background check. Once this is accomplished, they will move to Phase 2 of the selection process, where they must pass a psychological evaluation, pass a physical "fit for duty" medical exam, and pass a physical agility test.
