Job Summary:Under general supervision of the Patient Access Supervisor, the incumbent performs a wide variety of Patient Access Services (PAS) functions in support of patient care, access, and hospital revenue. Primary duties include:Accurately obtain physician orders, decipher physician orders for correct admission or testing directive.Verify patient demographics, reason for visit, and insurance/financial information by interviewing patients to verify that all information is correct to ensure a clean claim.Direct patients to testing location.Verify benefits, obtains required authorizations for insurance processing if missing, and follows up with patients for additional information required to process and accurately charge for services rendered.Collect payment for services, and any applicable deductibles or co-pays.Open travel insurance claims for the Emergency Department.Verify/identify if insurance authorization is in place and then if no authorization is in place then initiate Emergency Visit authorization.Monitor and address multiple alarm panels in the hospital, addressing and monitoring any issues and contacting appropriate personnel.Provide customer service to all incoming patients to Bartlett and operates the main switchboard of the hospital, processing all incoming and outbound calls.Responsible for updates to the Physician's On-Call through current on call program (Currently AMION).Incumbents may work with several patients at a time.Incumbents are responsible for the collection and tracking of all relevant information for services rendered during their time at Bartlett.Screening and monitoring of patients and visitors at main entrance.Patient Access Services (PAS) is a 24/7 department, all things filter through or start with PAS. It is essential for incumbents to understand the general operations for all departments within the organization. In addition, incumbents operate in an environment with constant interruptions and must re-prioritize or ensure they maintain focus on assigned tasks. The PAS Department is essential in providing administrative and operational support to Bartlett Regional Hospital. Interaction is primarily with patients, medical staff, physician's offices and ancillary departments. Incumbents should demonstrate the ability to think independently, problem solve and recommend solutions that positively reflect and impact the hospital. All duties require a high degree of judgement, tact, discretion and confidentiality.Minimum Qualifications for the Job:Education: High School diploma or equivalent.Experience: One (1) year of clerical work that included customer service.Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a health care related facility such as a clinic, hospital, or medical office; knowledge of medical terminology; and/or providing human services to diverse populations.Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rules or union contract terms.External Hires: This position begins at $22.40 per hour. Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based on relevant experience.Practice Notices:All new employees are required to produce a negative drug screen for all illegal substances in the State of Alaska prior to start of employment.
