REPORTS TO: Program Director

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Classified Administrative - Exempt

Overview of Position

The Site Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting and supervising the daily operations of the GEARS Afterschool Program. This position requires strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with the Program Director, staff, students, and families. The Site Coordinator ensures that curriculum implementation, staff scheduling, program supervision, and trauma-informed practices are effectively maintained. The role also involves coordination of the Driver's Education program and consistent communication with stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate's degree or higher in education, finance, or a related field

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education, finance, or a related field
  • Two years of experience working with children and youth ages 6-18
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and creating productive team environments
  • Adult, Child and Infant CPR and First Aid certification

Certifications & Licenses:

Driver's license

DMV proctor status preferred

Essential Functions
  • Provides a safe, healthy learning environment for children that promote developmentally appropriate social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth and development.
  • Works with the others to assess and monitor student progress towards learning objectives.
  • Works with the others to develop and implement lesson plans aligned with or directly from the approved curriculum.
  • Ensures a learning environment where children feel safe, have a sense of belonging and trust, as well as challenged, successful and self-confident.
  • Respects the child by observing, listening and learning for what the child has to teach
  • Plans daily activities for attending children that are play-based, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate
  • Develops and nurtures relationships with families. Supports families and assists them in meeting their goals through coordination of available resources.
  • Maintains respectful, professional relationships with parents at all times and encourages parent involvement
  • Encourages attendance and participation in all program and parent activities.
  • Includes parents in the planning of daily activities and special occasions.
  • Shares information with parents about the child's success and progress
  • Provides support and information to families in the area of health and nutrition.
  • Shows respect for the parents by listening and learning from what they have to teach.
  • Keeps all information confidential.
  • Support the Program Director in daily and long-term planning by:
    • Attending PYDAP, District Staff, and Website meetings/updates.
    • Providing information for program and parent newsletters.
    • Assisting with staff meeting agendas and discussions.
    • Assisting with curriculum review and training implementation.
    • Coordinating with the Director on staff evaluations and training.
    • Helping develop the program calendar and staff schedules.
    • Advising and assisting with curriculum and supply purchases.
    • Supervising daily afterschool program operations, including staff, students, volunteers, and visitors.
    • Being present and visible during programming.
    • Modeling trauma-informed responses with all participants.
  • Coordinate Driver's Education programming by:
    • Liaising with the Driver's Education contractor, students, families, and the DMV.
    • Assisting students in obtaining learner's permits and licenses.
    • Facilitating written exams after obtaining DMV proctor status.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge:

Knowledge of trauma-informed practices is highly desirable.

Skills in:
  • Organization and time management
  • Communication (written and oral)
  • Microsoft Office and general computer programs
  • Working with both adults and children

Ability to:
  • Work during the school year and travel as needed
  • Pass a background check and have reliable transportation
  • Create a productive team environment
  • Use trauma-informed approaches in all interactions
