Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the COO will lead internal operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and alignment with the mission. This role offers an opportunity to help shape the organization's growth. The ideal candidate is collaborative, detail-oriented, with strong experience in federal grant compliance, nonprofit or government entities, and people management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic & Operational Leadership: Oversee finance, HR, administration, and facilities; develop initiatives; lead strategic plan implementation; foster a culture of excellence and accountability.
  2. Team Supervision and Personnel Management: Supervise leadership, finance, and operations staff; oversee consultants and contractors.
  3. Financial Oversight and Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulations (including 2 CFR 200), accurate forecasting, financial reporting, and explore revenue opportunities, working with finance personnel.
  4. Grants & Contracts Administration: Monitor grant and contract budgets, ensure compliance, review spending, and manage legal and risk assessments.
  5. Risk Management and Legal Oversight: Maintain risk and compliance systems; liaise with legal counsel.
  6. Mission and Culture Champion: Foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative environment supporting staff motivation and growth.

You need:

  • At least 5 years of leadership in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit regulations and federal grants management
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, personnel supervision, and organizational development
  • Familiarity with grants, contracting, and legal compliance
  • Proven leadership in motivating cross-functional teams

Preferred qualifications: Experience managing hybrid teams and working with fractional or consultant roles.
