WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This is a full-time non-represented civilian position that works Monday through Friday, typically 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a ½-hour lunch break (can be adjusted to a longer workday with 1-hour lunch). This vacancy is located at the Juneau Police Department on Alaway Avenue in the Lemon Creek area.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO:
This Administrative Assistant position at JPD serves as the Recruitment Coordinator and works under general supervision of the Police Chief handling recruitment for all positions at the department. Your desk is located in the Chief's administrative office section in a quiet, professional setting on the 2nd floor of the police station. Your main recurring duty will be frequent contact with applicants over the phone, in person, and via email. You will advise applicants on our recruitment process, answer questions about disqualifying items that may exclude an applicant from being a police officer, answer questions about our community, proctor tests, arrange interview schedules, reserve and set up rooms for testing, serve as liaison with contracted testing agencies, use various computer programs (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, NeoGov) to do your work, and most importantly, keep applicants on track and moving along in their respective hiring process. It is not uncommon to have one to four recruitments open at one time. You will be required to make travel arrangements for certain applicants to come to Juneau for Phase II testing. You will use a CBJ purchasing card to make these arrangements, as well as will calculate reimbursements and per diems to applicants after their travel is complete. You will notarize documents for applicants (once notary commission is obtained).
Education: High School graduation or the equivalent.
Experience: Six (6) months of clerical experience. This work is equivalent to an Office Assistant with the City & Borough of Juneau or equivalent elsewhere.
SUBSTITUTION:
Post-secondary or vocational training may be substituted for the required
experience on the basis of: three (3) semester or four (4) quarter hours of post-
secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of
vocational education are equal to one month of experience.)
Other: Some positions (see position description) may require a valid Drivers' license at time of appointment and for continued employment.
Police Positions:As part of the selection process, applicants are subject to a background investigation that includes a criminal background review*, fingerprinting*, investigative review*, and receipt of verified negative results of pre-employment testing for controlled substances ( this includes: new hires, short term temp, long term temp, transfers from another CBJ department, or former JPD employees who have been separated from JPD employment for more than 30 days). All information provided by the applicant will be verified. Applicants who materially misrepresent any information provided in the employment process will be excluded from further consideration or dismissed if already employed. * Required for new hires only
APSIN NOTIFICATION -Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of afelony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
Juneau Police Department Requirements: Ability and willingness to work shifts, holidays, weekends, scheduled and emergency overtime, and be available for required on-call duty; attend local and out of area training courses as authorized and required; willingness to wear a uniform and comply with department grooming standards; maintain minimum unscheduled absences and a high rate of attendance; maintain a positive attitude and be flexible to change
