The Human Resources & Risk Management department is hiring a Risk Management Officer to join our team
and lead Risk Management for the City and Borough of Juneau!

This position works with management, legal counsel, insurance adjusters, contractors, and a variety of other agencies. A high degree of tact, discretion, and judgement are required, and you may encounter challenging customers within CBJ and its citizens. The HR-Risk Department is a group of dedicated public service-minded individuals with a strong focus on delivering excellent customer service, developing innovative solutions, and promoting a collaborative atmosphere. While this position works most often with the Safety Officer, Risk Management Technician and HR-Risk Director, it provides valuable expertise and support to the Human Resources Division and Risk Management staff. This position also works with teams across CBJ departments, the Juneau School District, and Bartlett Regional Hospital.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. Occasional weekends or hours outside the regular workday may be required to address risk management issues. Your office is located in downtown Juneau at City Hall.
Typical Responsibilities
This position is responsible for developing and administering risk management programs as well as the City and Borough of Juneau's insurance and self-insurance programs. Scope of services includes CBJ General Government, CBJ Enterprise Departments, Bartlett Regional Hospital, and the Juneau School District.
Primary duties involve claims management, overseeing the Workers Compensation Program, insurance program management, contract and procurement review, risk management reporting and consulting, supervising the CBJ Safety Officer and Risk Management Technician, and managing a large budget for commodities and services within the risk management programs.
Minimum Qualifications
The Risk Management Officer is within the partially exempt service and serves at the pleasure of the Human Resources and Risk Manager.

Desirable Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Public or Business Administration, risk management, human resources or related field.
Experience:
Four (4) years of professional experience in risk management or as a licensed claims adjuster. This experience should include all-lines insurance,
loss control, claims case management, workers compensation and group health and life benefits program administration, preferably in the public sector.
SUBSTITUTION:
Any combination of related education, training and/or experience will be considered.
Other:
Valid Driver's License by date of appointment and for continued employment.
