Assistant Port Engineer

Summary: Under the direction of the Port Engineer, this position is responsible for performing regular scheduled maintenance duties on all day tour vessels, including assisting Captains with oil changes, supporting the Port Engineer with mechanical repairs, and keeping all parts, filters, and equipment areas on dock organized and stocked.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Possess a current Driver's license with a clean record and no recent violations.Be able to lift at least 50 pounds as part of daily duties.Be comfortable working around diesel engines.Have some experience with mechanic's tools.Be self-motivated and able to work independently.Be flexible to work varied shifts, including some weekends and holidays.Be drug-free, with pre-employment screening and participation in a random drug testing program as required by the Coast Guard.Be available to work from mid-April to the end of September with minimal interruptions.Minimum Qualifications:Ability to perform engine oil changes on a fleet of four or more large marine diesel engines of various makes and ages.Work safely in a fast-paced environment.Assist in monitoring maintenance inventory such as lube oil, filters, and tools.Communicate problems effectively to the Port Engineer.Maintain dock and shop areas to be clean, safe, and hazard-free.At least six months' experience in a similar role.Familiarity with hand and power tools.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:High School diploma or equivalent.Two years' experience in a similar position with increasing responsibilities.Knowledge of US Coast Guard regulations.Proficiency with computers, technology, and Microsoft Office Suite.Welding experience with TIG, MIG, shielded, or flux core welding.Traits and Characteristics:Flexibility in prioritizing daily activities.Effective communication skills with team members.Ability to work independently.Prioritize safety at all times.Ability to build and maintain positive relationships across departments.Work Environment:Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays. Comfortable working in small, enclosed, dusty, noisy, and sometimes hot or cold environments. Willing to work early mornings or late nights as needed.Physical Demands:Must be able to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds, walk on uneven deck surfaces, and regularly bend, twist, and squat.
