The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Anchorage International Airport - Facilities is looking for a Maintenance Specialist - Plumbing – Journey 2/Lead to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

** This position is eligible for a ten percent (10%) differential as part of Mission Critical Incentive Pay in addition to the advertised pay. For specific questions regarding this recruitment or the Incentive pay please contact the hiring manager for this position.

What you will be doing:
This position provides plumbing & general maintenance support for DOT&PF Buildings and facilities primarily in the interior but throughout the Northern Region of Anchorage International Airport. Responsibilities include:

  1. Perform installation, maintenance, repairs, and routine inspections.
  2. Use and operate tools, equipment, or machines of varying difficulty.
  3. Perform physically demanding work.
  4. Detect and identify needed repairs.
  5. Read and write, follow and apply written and verbal directions, and communicate clearly.
  6. Make decisions and follow through to completion or resolution of a problem.
  7. Respond to emergency situations following established procedures.
  8. Demonstrate sensitivity and interest in customer concerns and needs.
  9. Review/develop specifications for purchase of technical and/or specialized equipment.
  10. Determine the appropriate layout of job and material requirements, and work sequences if no blueprints, plans, or specifications are available.

Who we are looking for:
To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies:

  • Plumbing and Pipefitting: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to install, maintain, or repair pipelines, pipe systems, and fixtures, including water, air, steam, gas, chemicals, or sewage.
  • Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
  • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Special Note:
This position requires:

  • State of Alaska Certificate of Plumbing Fitness Card (minimum of 8000 hours or 4-year apprenticeship in the Plumbing Trade)
  • Municipality of Anchorage Plumbing License
  • Current or ability to obtain Backflow Preventer Certification
  • Valid driver's license

Candidates for this position must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542) which requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check.
