POSITION SUMMARY

Manages mine operations personnel at an underground mine to develop, maintain and continuously improve upon value-adding safety, operational and financial performance by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Supervisor Responsibilities
  • Supervise employees; perform evaluations in a timely manner; and coach, counsel, make recommendations, and initiate discipline as needed
  • Control cost and production through efficient delegation and management of resources
  • Take the lead in any emergency situation and understand emergency response book
  • Provide safety training, perform job observations as required, and review safe work practices with employees as needed
  • Train and develop employees to improve their capabilities as well as prepare them for opportunities for promotions
  • Complete daily paperwork and computer work that provide proper passdowns and production record keeping
  • Ensure employees have the tools, equipment, supplies, guidance, and support to succeed
  • Assist in creation, enforcement, and improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Departmental Responsibilities
  • Tours and inspects mine to detect and resolve safety, health, environmental, production, equipment utilization, and personnel problems in coordination with the appropriate resource providers.
  • Reviews data such as maps, survey reports, and geological records, and confers with engineering, geology, maintenance, and supervisory personnel to plan and direct safe and effective mine development and production.
  • Reviews data on operating costs, ore values, ventilation, ground control, and surveys to instruct shift supervisors in the execution of short and long term mine plans.
  • Studies maps to determine placement of haulage ways, access drifts, ventilation shafts, utilities, muck storage bays, refuge chambers and other underground facilities.
  • Studies ground conditions to ensure ground control standards are being followed during all phases of mining activity.
  • Reads company standards and governmental safety regulations, and issues directives to workers to ensure adherence to applicable rules and regulations.
  • Prepares and reviews reports and records on safety incidents, production, ore grade, and other key performance indicators to monitor progress and achievement of business objectives.
  • Must possess superior organizational skills to plan, monitor and adjust to dynamic operating issues.
  • Must have excellent ability to gather, analyze, and report information; as well as, maintain organized and current files.
  • Must possess expertise in emergency management and the incident command system, knowledge and proficiency for evaluating and mitigating occupational exposures, hazard recognition and mitigation, risk management, and contractor management.
  • Must be a leader with a clear vision and possess the ability to inspire, influence and direct people through positive example.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills in oral, written, presentation, and training formats.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build consensus utilizing a people-oriented approach is essential.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) or equivalent in mine engineering, geology, geological engineering or related field; eight or more years of related experience and/or training, in a supervisory capacity.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Ability to obtain ATF Possessor's Clearance
