Position Summary
This is an exciting multi-discipline position working for a Forest Service district recreation program in Girdwood, AK. The position will include assisting developed recreation crews and staff in all matters concerning recreation site maintenance and sustainability. Interns will be responsible for recreation operations and planning support. Core program work will include recreation data collection, public information/education program delivery, developed recreation site operations/maintenance, cabin maintenance, trail maintenance, and road maintenance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Interns will work with permanent and seasonal staff to engage with volunteers on recreation site management, design, construction, and partnerships to help develop a sustainable developed recreation program. Other duties will include support of field operations in trails, cabins, backcountry patrol, and resource programs.
Required Qualifications
Interns will need to bring a positive attitude, willingness to work in inclement (wet) weather, long days and spiked out in remote field camps.
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Living Accommodations
Bunkhouse housing will be provided. Bunkhouse facility is on the district office compound, right next door to where interns will report to work each day. Expect to have a roommate. Bunkhouse accommodations include kitchen facilities with all the pots/pans/utensils provided; shared living room space with TV; multiple bathrooms/showers; bedding such as linens/pillow/comforter can be provided as well.
Bunkhouse is located within walking distance to stores, restaurants, town center, and Alyeska Ski Resort. A bike path runs right behind the bunkhouse and connects all of town (a number of bikes are available for bunkhouse residents to use). Additionally hiking trails, including a portion of the Iditarod National Historic Trail, are within walking distance of the bunkhouse.
Compensation
$450/week living allowance
$300/month housing allowance (4 months)
$1300 travel stipend
$500 duty-related reimbursements
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
