Building Maintenance Technician

Description:

As our Building Maintenance Technician, you will perform repairs of buildings and equipment, as well as construct new structures at a remote mine to keep our production going and our profitability up. Every day you will work at a mine on an island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You'll start every day organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing work activities to ensure timely completion of projects, programs, and objectives. The majority of your average workday consists of performing preventative maintenance on building mechanical equipment, and renovating, remodeling, and inspecting structures. To thrive in this role, you will have professional experience with carpentry, HVAC, concrete installation and/or plumbing. We're on a remote island, you must know how to work independently, identify, and resolve problems in a timely manner.

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 490 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here's what you can expect in this role:

* Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well.

* You will perform minor and major repair of site buildings and equipment, as well as install new buildings.

* You will monitor and inspect fire systems.

* You will support the fixed maintenance electrical group and surface operations group with projects on occasion.

* You will clean, inspect and maintain boiler systems, furnaces, trash compactors, and HVAC equipment.

* You will inspect and repair plumbing systems.

* You will replace and repair doors and windows, along with locks to maintain building security.

* Safety is important. Every piece of equipment and each work area must be inspected before work starts. You will promote and personally observe safety procedures.
