The incumbent must have the ability to view and manage sensitive items and materials. We have a robust hands-on training program and will guide the incumbent in learning the computer programs and processes. WORK HOURS & LOCATION
This position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with holidays off. Evidence staff work in the secure evidence room at the Juneau Police Department, located on Alaway Avenue in the Lemon Creek area, conveniently located between downtown and the valley.

Typical Responsibilities
The Evidence and Property Technician works as part of a two-person work unit and must be a self-starter and able to work both independently and collaboratively on the team as the workload changes from day-to-day. The incumbent is responsible for clerical and physical work, such as placing evidence items on shelves, moving bicycles and boxes, checking property in and out of the secure facility. This work involves the systematic receipt, storage, release, disposal, and security of a wide variety of confiscated property and evidence including money, firearms, found property, vehicles, plus recovered or received items as a result of search warrants. Evidence employees work closely in person or through other correspondence with officers, attorneys, prosecutors, and other agencies, such as AST, ATF, FBI and DEA. The incumbent sends evidence to the crime lab and handles the coordination of various items for disposal or destruction, such as narcotics, hazardous materials, and weapons. The incumbent plays a vital role in helping to maintain the integrity of all evidence and a chain of custody in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, and departmental guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School graduation or the equivalent.
Experience: One year (1) of work experience that included working with databases or a wide variety of computer applications. * Experience in a legal or law enforcement setting is preferred.
Substitution: Post-secondary or vocational training in a related area to the position may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of: three (3) semester or four (4) quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education are equal to one month of experience.)
Other: Not less than 21 years of age at time of appointment. A valid Alaska Driver's License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
